Trust Higgins was founded out of a realization that many parents never see coming.
As we began planning for our own family, my husband, Connor, and I learned an unsettling truth: if something were to happen to both of us unexpectedly, the law may permit first responders or authorities to place children temporarily into Child Protective Services until a will is probated or a clear plan emerges. Even in loving families with willing relatives, that legal gap can exist—and it can be deeply traumatic for children.
That reality did not sit right with us.
The good news is that this outcome is not inevitable. With thoughtful planning, parents can put clear protections in place now, ensuring their children are immediately cared for by trusted family or friends—without unnecessary disruption.
As an attorney with a background in child advocacy, I have spent years working in systems designed to respond after harm has occurred. Trust Higgins is about doing the opposite: preventing avoidable trauma before it ever happens.
Trust Higgins exists to help parents take responsibility for the one role no one else can fill—protecting their children, even in the worst-case scenario.
